It’s a Chilly One, Folks! – Week 3 of Chinook Blast

Have you been doing the right dance? It doesn’t seem like our collective Chinook dance is working.

Nevertheless, we’re Canadian, so we’ll brave a little cold to keep the good times coming!

While proving our good, hearty stock is a point of pride, we’ve made adjustments to the schedule to keep your blood flowing.

Think of it like a quick ice bath followed by a warm sauna, and repeat.

What to do tonight in Calgary – Friday, February 14

Your weekend can’t officially begin until you’ve been to ImaginAsian Night Market. If you’re one of the first 100 people to visit tonight (only!), you’ll get a free dessert. As if that wasn’t enough, there will be live performances, art displays, calligraphy writing, games, lantern making, a market, and more.

After an hour or two of the night market, find your seat at one of several Block Heater shows. They promise to warm your soul with folk music today and tomorrow at venues across downtown Calgary. Buy tickets to see artists like Basia Bulat, Begonia, Black Mountain, Kathleen Edwards, Jeremy Dutcher, and Teke::Teke.

The RISE UP Calgary Community Outdoor Stage concerts have been rescheduled. Check out Saturday’s schedule!

What to do on Saturday, February 15

Start your day at noon with Chinook Blast and JazzYYC to celebrate Black History Month at Central Library. Take a quick break from the music for Black History Month Storytime with Wakefield Brewster.

Now that you’re nice and toasty, head to The Confluence for Skijordue. They’re taking over with trick riding and stunt sliding skijoring today and tomorrow. Vote for the best style awards, shop the Maker’s Marketplace, eat fondue, warm around the fire, and sip some craft beer. Grab your tickets before they sell out!

While the fondue warmed your belly, it’s time to warm the rest of yourself back up again! The RISE UP Calgary Community Outdoor Stage concerts have moved into The CORE Shopping Centre from 2 – 6 pm. Catch these free shows indoors:

GLOWful Wanderings and aGoGo performers will also be inside The CORE from 12 – 2 pm and 4 – 5 pm, respectively.

End your evening with food and drink specials at some of our favourite downtown spots.

What to do on Sunday, February 16

You have all day and night to explore the city and see the art installations and lights while they’re still up!

Join Calgary Public Library for a winter-themed event featuring a screening of Wicked, exciting sports games, and a winter craft activity at Central Library.

Enjoy more free concerts with Dempsey Bolton from 6-6:45 pm and Ben Tizzard from 7:15 – 8:15 pm  on the RISE UP Calgary Community Outdoor Stage.

Puppet Stuff Canada, Bravo Circus and Green Fool’s Giant Elk will be entertaining you as you walk the Avenue.

What to do on Monday, February 17

It’s the long weekend (just in case you forgot)! We didn’t, which is why we planned to give you an extra long weekend to enjoy every last bit of Chinook Blast this year. And we’re heading back inside.
