Olympic Plaza is back as the official hub of the 18-day celebration. You’ll find never-before-seen art and light shows taking over the entire area. Look up, down, and all around to soak in everything so winterful. Or narrow your sights on the Artists Pavillion, sponsored by the TD Bank Group at the Central Library for a taste of Chinook Blast with pop-up galleries and lunchtime mini jams.
We know this cold front may have you hibernating, so we’ll help you ease into the winter spirit with some indoor events. Returning this year, you’ll find Four Winds Indigenous Showcase & Market, ImaginAsian: Asian Night Market, and Market Collective. Each is stuffed full of local goods, activities, and performances steeped in Calgary’s diverse culture.
Have we coaxed you outside yet? We promise it will be worth it. You’ll be offered plenty of opportunities to warm up by trying out winter sports like skating, cross-country skiing, or curling after the experts inspire you. Find edge-of-your-seat excitement with Nitrocross, a high-flying rallycross, or Chinook Slide, a star-studded celebrity curling match.
As if that wasn’t enough to have you marking your calendar “busy” from the 2-19, you’ll be able to catch countless musical performances. Seriously, there are almost too many for us to count. But it’s over 50 if you really need to know. The icing on top? Many are *drumroll please*… free! You can listen from the comfort of an indoor seat or tap your toes to the beat while skating on an outdoor rink.
It’s All in the Community
Not only have we partnered with some of your favourite groups from previous years, like Calgary Folk Fest’s Block Heater, Ethnik Festivals of Arts and Culture, BIG Winter Classic, and High Performance Rodeo, but the Friends of Chinook Blast Funding Program has provided funding to 29 local organizations, so they can put on their own celebrations.
