About

This puppet pop up features the story of The Gray Jay and the Magpie by Ken Lee, a puppet project and a video link to 150 people retelling the story with puppets.

Inspired by our project “Gray Jay and Magpie” we’re making winter bird puppets! Children and adults craft a beautiful paper mask body puppet facsimile of the intrepid birds found in the Calgary area during the winter. Like the chickadee, magpie, flicker and gray jay, as we celebrate staying warm with feathers and community. This is a drop by workshop and is free for all.

This pop up will include
• Copy of the story, The Gray Jay and The Magpie by Ken Lee
• Puppet making
• Link to YouTube videos of puppet performances for all 10 chapters of the story

The pop up includes a guided demonstration where participants will make their own puppet.

Suitable for children, ages 5 and up, but all are welcome.

All tools and supplies will be provided.

WP Puppet Theatre’s puppetry-based workshops, residencies and puppet shows present a wide range of opportunities to link to both specific learning objectives and to 21st century learning skills. Our goal is to support classroom learning, inspire students to be creators, performers and makers, and be a resource for both teachers and students.
