To celebrate Lunar New Year and Chinook Blast, the Chinatown BIA—together with funders and sponsors Calgary Arts Developement, Tourism Calgary, the City of Calgary, Calgary Economic Development, the Chinese Consulate, PetroChina Canada, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC), Canada China Association of Enterprises (CCAE) (Canadian Northwest Region), the Asian Heritage Foundation, and valued community partners—is proud to present a vibrant live ice sculpture activation in Chinatown and at Eau Claire Plaza.
Master ice sculptors from Heilongjiang, China, who has the world’s largest ice and snow festival, will transform massive blocks of ice into stunning works of art during live carving sessions on February 12–13 at Eau Claire Plaza. Visitors are invited to check out these live demonstrations and explore additional ice carvings displayed throughout Chinatown. This free, family-friendly experience offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the artistry and cultural tradition of ice sculpting while enjoying Calgary’s winter festival season.

FEB 9 (6–9 PM) & FEB 10 (9 AM–5 PM): Daqing Square
FEB 12 (12–6 PM) & FEB 13 (9 AM–4 PM): Eau Claire Plaza – finishing touches at 5 PM!
FEB 13: Finishing touches will be made with Chinook Blast Asian Hertiage Foundation. Opening ceremonies on stage at the Eau Claire by 5:30pm with a Dragon Dance. Followed by other performances!
